COVID-19 and CLIMATE CHANGE, Choice is Ours

What would you call it, a mere coincidence or a ‘human fostered’ so called “development” that the two major threats that the entire ecology is facing today begins with the letter “C”. They need no intro, they are “famous” in the entire world now-a- days, everyone is getting impacted by them, be it humans themselves or the animals who have been dragged into the awful impact of these. Yes , these are none other than but Covid-19 and Climate Change. You must be wondering why I call them ‘human fostered’. Haven't these been fostered by humans? Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution to develop the vaccines we have accumulated a lot in this journey but meanwhile we have fostered these two major threats also. We have grand machines that sustain for long, our bridges, buildings, blockchain sustain for long but not biodiversity. Why are we not able to grow with nature? We have a lot of agreements with various countries but why not a single one with nature?
Both Covid-19 as well as Climate Change are not the problems that suddenly appeared from nowhere, these are the products of sustained progress in an unsustainable way. The history of the scientific discovery of Climate Change began in the early 19th century and it continues till today. But we have got hold over many major diseases that posed a threat to humanity like small-pox, measles which were highly contagious, polio, mumps, lymphatic filariasis and many in the line. And now, we are also able to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic. But the serious threat that is developing over heads and impacting the earth under feet, still remains a challenge to us. What is the reason? Are we not serious? Philosopher Thomas Carlyle has rightly said, "No pressure, no diamonds." Either we are not considering pressure or not a diamond for humanity. Not considering it as pressure- burning tons and tons of fossil based fuel, denuding forests, and not taking it as a precious diamond- loosing the beauty of seasons, enjoying sweetness of fruits sitting under a tree and most crucially not depriving our generation just for beautiful picture of nature created by our modern computers with latest technologies which they will be seeing in their modern gadgets as old memories. Where are we heading? Every educated and so-called “developed” person in this world who is the major contributor in climate change knows very well what causes this and how s/he can contribute in reducing the same. But everyone of us very well know how to increase our chance of not infecting with Coronavirus by putting on masks, taking vaccine, washing hand again and again, coming out of the homes if it is necessary, so much we know. But then why are we not serious about climate change? The reason is simple because neither we take climate change as a pressure on lives nor consider it as a precious diamond for our future generation. Perhaps we are waiting for the day when climate change will be so severe that it will stop us from going to offices, something very common now-a-days PPE kit. In one thing we should be fully assured that we will be able to produce such a PPE kit from our highly advanced machines that will protect us from the ultraviolet rays which will be all around us like Coronavirus today. Should we start developing such PPE kits or rather fulfill our duty to reduce climate change so that we can enjoy and let our upcoming generations enjoy the beauty of mother nature. Choice is ours.
